Planning a festive season getaway to Kruger National Park? If you’re visiting as a day visitor, advance planning is essential. To manage high visitor volumes and protect the Park’s roads, wildlife and facilities, SANParks has implemented a gate quota system for day visitors during the busy holiday period.

Day Visitor Quotas and Online Booking
To prevent overcrowding during peak travel periods, SANParks limits daily entries for all day visitors to Kruger National Park. Therefore, visitors should book online in advance via the official SANParks website at www.sanparks.org.
When you book online, you pay a non-refundable administration fee of:
- R59 per adult
- R29 per child
However, this administration fee is separate from the conservation fee, which visitors still pay at the gate unless they present a valid SANParks Wild Card. In addition, Wild Card members must also pre-book their visits, as the card does not exempt them from the administration fee.
Conservation Fees: What You Will Pay
SANParks charges conservation fees according to nationality, and these fees apply to both drivers and passengers:
- South African, Zimbabwean and Mozambican nationals
- R134 per adult
- R67 per child (ages 2–11)
- SADC nationals
- R275 per adult
- R137 per child
- All other international visitors
- R602 per adult
- R300 per child
To qualify for local or regional rates, South African visitors must present a valid identity document or driver’s licence, while international guests must present a passport. Otherwise, officials will charge the standard international conservation fee.
Entry Time Slots for Pre-Booked Day Visitors
Pre-booked visitors are prioritised at the gates, provided they arrive within their allocated entry time slot:
- Time Slot 1: 05:30 – 08:00
- Time Slot 2: 08:00 – 10:00
- Time Slot 3: 10:00 onwards
Late arrivals will be treated as non-booked visitors and may lose priority access. Once daily quotas are reached, only pre-booked visitors will be allowed entry, with further access dependent on the number of vehicles exiting the Park.
The quota system does not apply to overnight guests, making advance accommodation bookings an alternative option during peak periods.
Vehicle Compliance and Increased Festive Season Kruger Security
Vehicles without licence plates or a valid temporary licence number will not be allowed to enter or exit Kruger National Park. Any vehicle found inside the Park without proper registration will be impounded, and the driver may be charged and fined.
To ensure safety and prevent illegal activities, Ranger Services, the South African Police Service (SAPS) and the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) will be deployed throughout the festive season.
Cash-Free Payments at Key Gates
Visitors are reminded that a cash-free payment system operates at several southern Kruger National Park gates, including:
- Paul Kruger Gate
- Phabeni Gate
- Numbi Gate
- Malelane Gate
- Crocodile Bridge Gate
The system also applies at fuel stations in the southern part of the Park, ensuring quicker and more convenient entry and exit.
